“Angels and Demons”. Tour to mystical Rome

Let’s walk in the footsteps of the famous novel by D. Brown “Angels and Demons” and see everything with our own eyes….

Mysterious Italy is waiting for you!

Santa Maria del Popolo

It is the church of Santa Maria del Popolo with the “tomb of Santi with a devil’s hole” (in other words, a burial vault with a deep pit with a closed hatch in the center). In this hole, the remains of the family Chigi was buried.

The executions took place at Piazza del Popolo, and now it is of the quietest squares in Rome. Quite inconspicuous from the outside, the church of Santa Maria del Popolo was erected on the place where, according to legend, Nero was buried.

Bas-relief West Ponente

Bas-relief West Ponente is a “famous” (according to Brown) plate in a marble block, located in front of St. Peter’s Cathedral. The bas-relief depicts an angel, from whose mouth a whiff blows. A number of medallions with exactly the same angels surround the obelisk in the center of St. Peter’s Square.

Santa Maria della Vittoria

Bernini’s sculpture “The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa” is the main treasure of Santa Maria della Vittoria. The angel hangs over the marble woman, leaning back and supposedly suffocating. His spear is aimed at St. Theresa’s heart.

Castel Sant’Angelo (Castle of the Holy Angel)

The Illuminati, being in the castle of the Holy Angel, could easily reach the Vatican through the ancient underground passage.

The popes also dug tunnels to hide there in case of danger.

Navona Square

A long time ago there was the arena, where competitions through athletes took place. In the Middle Ages, the stadium was reconstructed. The arena of the stadium turned into a square where the fountain of the Four Rivers was created.

In addition to the fountain of the Four Rivers at Navona Square, two other fountains are located here: the fountain of the Moor and the Neptune Fountain. Therefore, this square is known as “The Three Fountains Square”.

St. Peter’s Basilica and Square

Stitched Panorama

Another location mentioned in the famous book is St. Peter’s Basilica and Square. The square near the church is considered an architectural masterpiece designed by medieval artist Bernini. St. Peter’s is the most renowned work of Renaissance architecture and the largest church in the world.
